Harley Davidson Motorcycles

In the language understood by all motorcyclists around the world, Harley-Davidson means motorcycle. After all, Harley-Davidson has been in business for over a hundred years and the company is accredited as the father of some of the world's finest motorcycles.

Founded by William Harley and Arthur Davidson, the company started what would later become a world phenomenon in a backyard and they birth the world's first 'motorized bicycle'  - the machine that has evolved into the standard for two-wheeled transportation.

Their first bike didn't have enough power to make it up small town hills without pedaling, but that didn't stop this duo from pushing the limits. For within just a few years, they were producing 'motorized bicycles' for the WWI military and Harley-Davidson products have remained the standard for military and police bikes ever since.

Today, the company has produces millions of motorcycles sold around the world from only 50 motorcycles produced in 1906.

Known as 'Harley', 'Choppers', or 'Hogs', Harley Davidson bikes have earned quite a few names of adornment from millions of die-hard fans. But they aren't just pet names. Choppers have an extended front fork angle that moves the handlebars back. People started called their bikes 'Hogs' when real pigs were ridden around on the back seat after winning a race. Whatever name they've earned, their large, powerful engines and distinctive pipe sounds make them recognizable before they even reach the corner and just watching one drive by is an experience of greatness in itself.

Harley Davidson bikes can be seen in any of the major rallies, the Daytona in Florida in March, the Laconia in New Hampshire in June and the Sturgis in South Dakota in August. In each of these massive events, thousands of Harley owners and fans drool over some of the old classic versions, the newer models, and of course the customized versions.

As one of the largest motorcycle clubs known to man, The Harley Owners Group, H.O.G., founded in 1983, now has over 1,000 chapters with over a million members worldwide and many of these members don't even own a bike. But in the atmosphere of the Harley, it isn't' always about ownership. Sometimes, it's about the passion and the respect that these machines magically command.

There are co-branded jackets, helmets and hundreds more items carrying the Harley-Davidson winged emblem that only reinforce this passion and respect, and it's reinforced in every corner of the world. Harley Davidson generates over $5 billion in annual revenue and they know how to use it! Their advertising is priceless.

On the Internet are thousands of Harley-Davidson forums - three times as many as there are for Yamaha, which happens to be one of Harley Davidson's major competitors for the crown of motorcycle design. BMW, Victory, Honda come close - but Harley-Davidson continues to prevail as it always has in the past.
